Cell Phone Data Collection

Cell Phone Data Collection
As the telecommunications landscape evolves, the cell phone-only population (cord-cutters) continues to climb at an aggressive rate. According to data collected during the National Health Interview Survey, cord-cutters now make up about 13 percent of U.S. households and is on pace to exceed 25 percent in 2008.

Traditional telephone surveys, conducted by randomly dialing landline-based phone numbers, do not represent the growing population of cord-cutters. Certain population segments, such as 18- to 34-year-old adults, have all but disappeared from landline surveys.

Cell phone surveys also offer unique advantages for longitudinal analysis. Text messages can reduce attrition and, even though subjects move around, cell phone numbers often remain the same.
