Welfare-to-Work Evaluation Followup Surveys
Macro is performing the followup surveys for the Pepperdine University Welfare-to-Work Evaluation Project, which explores the relative efficacy of faith-based programs in helping people move from welfare to work. Macro is using computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) surveys to refine this project. We will track and contact the 436 participants for the 6- and 12-month followup surveys and work with Pepperdine personnel to refine the final survey instrument, develop the training materials, finalize procedures, and provide the training for the interviewers. We also will provide support for collating the data and preparing the final report.
Program Impact Evaluation
Macro investigated the impact that the dramatic expansion in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program had on local service delivery for the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). We conducted an analysis of program participation and expenditure statistics, prior research, and several case studies; conducted a mail survey to a census of State agencies and 300 local agencies to capture the local services delivery environment; developed a quasi-experimental research design to evaluate a computer-assisted nutrition education program, using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Patient Flow Analysis System; and conducted 22 case studies at local WIC sites. FNS released our report and findings to Congress and the general public.
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Prevention Exhibits
As part of its mission to improve the lives of people with or at risk for mental health and substance abuse disorders, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) developed a conference exhibit program to provide outreach to SAMHSA's traditional constituency and to other relevant audiences that may not yet be aware of SAMHSA's programs and services. Macro has been retained to develop and maintain the conference exhibit program to reflect the mission, vision, and priorities of SAMHSA and its Centers. We develop exhibit schedules to represent SAMHSA offices and Centers at approximately 200 national and regional conferences annually. We also are creating exhibit structure components to be used separately or together, based on the conference and the audience, to accommodate up to 6 conferences at a time as well as 10 concurrent regional/local conferences. We provide promotional and support materials as needed.
