Assessment of Training of Public Health Researchers
As the public health environment changes, so does the preparation and training needs of the disease prevention research workforce. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) contracted with Macro to assess the existing mechanisms for graduate and post-graduate training of public health researchers sponsored by CDC. We helped to prepare this assessment, which provided information and guidance on how best to meet the objectives of increasing a multidisciplinary workforce of researchers interested in prevention as well as the number of sound research studies; providing experience to prevention researchers in public health settings; building relationships between academic prevention researchers and local public health practitioners; and providing training in competencies needed to enhance health care delivery.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Training Plan
BIA contracted with Macro to create a training plan to address the development and implementation of a targeted training initiative. This Macro training plan identifies the types of training required for all BIA, Office of Special Trustees, and Tribes who perform trust management functions; preferred training medium; recommended course lengths; and a list of vendors, colleges and universities, and government agencies that provide the required training. The plan also identifies training requirements that cannot be met with off-the-shelf products and recommends the course content, length, and training medium for each. In addition, the plan recommends regional training sites for instructor-led courses. It describes the responsibilities and processes for preparing and executing the training, ensuring a comprehensive approach that tracks training by employee and tribal members.
