The speed and complexity of projects, the changing workforce, and the need to combine and share resources all contribute to a growing and well-founded reliance on teaming. Organizations, however, often ignore important factors related to creating successful teams. Team building requires knowledge about group dynamics and teamwork and it involves new management, decisionmaking, and information sharing techniques. Macro can bring together teams of people within your organization to achieve tangible objectives based on commitment to a unified vision. We offer facilitated seminars in team building to both intact work teams and units needing to come together. As with all of our training efforts, our involvement with your organization can extend from a pre-training assessment, through delivery, and into post-training evaluation and technical assistance.

Macro provided general consultation, coaching, and technical assistance to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, LDP 17 Team in support of their efforts to continuously improve the quality of their teamwork and leadership practices. Macro provided technical assistance regarding organizational development assessment measures and rewards within the context of a teaming environment. We also provided process facilitation to support the transformation of organizational activities aimed at developing high-performance teams. This included facilitating team meetings and off-site activities, providing technical assistance in strategic planning and team-building activities, and conducting training. Our approach included coaching on interpersonal-relationship-building that fosters effective leadership skills, good communication behaviors, and win-win solutions.

Macro was asked by a Fortune 500 company to provide team-building services for an executive group that was not functioning as efficiently and effectively as possible. Macro began this high-risk assignment by first identifying the key issues contributing to the dysfunction of the team. Areas of concern included communication disconnects, unclear roles and responsibilities, conflicts in values, and poor meeting management skills. Power clashes among executives who came to the group with different corporate and personal agendas also disrupted the dynamic. Macro documented these issues (maintaining confidentiality) and created a team-building process that started with solving the less contentious issues and continued with successively more difficult ones. Individual flash points were worked outside the group environment. Through this developmental process, the team was able to gradually establish a string of successes that led to healthy group processes and team productivity.
