Substance Abuse Prevention Platform
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ CSAP is the lead Federal
agency for developing policies, programs, and services to prevent
and reduce the consequences of the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco,
and drugs. Macro developed and upgraded SAMHSA's Prevention
Platform, an intelligent
computer-assisted program on the World Wide Web, to assist the
agency in planning
and applying scientific
substance abuse prevention programs. Macro designed the Platform
around the SAMHSA Strategic Prevention Framework, which integrates
prevention activities into decision
support modules that include needs assessment; capacity development;
strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation. The Platform
provides general levels of decision support for both community-level
projects and State prevention
systems. The Platform
has more than 8,000 registered users representing all 50 States
as well as territories
and jurisdictions.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Evaluation Methodologies
CDC (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) is the lead Federal agency for protecting health and safety, providing credible information to enhance health decisions, and promoting health through strong partnerships. Macro developed methodologies for CDC’s use in evaluating Web sites and technology-based information dissemination systems across the Nation. We used in-depth evaluations of different sites to develop a framework that public health agencies could use to plan and implement queriable Web-based data dissemination tools. The framework guidelines incorporate best practices and industry standards in software development and comply with Federal guidelines on accessibility based on Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act and CDC interface guidelines.
